About Gusto

At Gusto, we're on a mission to grow the small business economy. We handle the hard stuff — payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR — so owners can focus on their craft and their customers. With teams in Denver, San Francisco, and New York, we support more than 500,000 small businesses nationwide and are building a workplace that reflects the people we serve.

What Product Management is like at Gusto:

We’re looking for high-autonomy, entrepreneurial Product Managers to build high-impact solutions for small businesses and their employees. We believe in high-ownership Product Managers who operate like business owners — owning an entire roadmap end to end and shipping product all the way from strategy through to the nitty-gritty details (some describe this kind of role as a “GM” type role).

We’re boundaryless builders. Lines between roles are intentionally blurred, and our PMs do whatever it takes to deliver outcomes. You’ll prototype, automate, design, and ship — using AI as your co-builder to turn problems into durable solutions that deliver customer value with urgency and care.

Our Product team is lean, which means you’ll have a high degree of impact and ownership. We believe in smaller, empowered teams that move quickly with less overhead. You’ll move fast by pairing sharp product judgment with fluency in AI tools — automating what slows teams down and amplifying what makes them creative and high-performing.

We’re here to serve small and medium businesses. Gusto has a strong mission-driven culture, and we care deeply about lifting up these business owners — building technology for an AI-first world that gives them the superpowers to run and grow their businesses with confidence.

We’re comfortable with change. Our environment moves fast, and PMs here thrive in ambiguity — blending curiosity, experimentation, and AI-native craft to shape how products (and work itself) are built at Gusto.

About the Team:

Cashflow touches s a variety of teams all working together within “Gusto Money”. What’s incredible about small businesses is that they generally overpay on their taxes, and this team focuses on getting their hard earned money back to them. The role you’ll fill is leading a team that technically focuses on Tax Credits, however zooming out this is all about delivering cashflow to small businesses. The team has relentless focus getting small business’ hard earned money that is generally sent to local, state, and federal tax agencies redirected and redeployed to their business.

Small businesses don't fail because they're unprofitable. They fail because cash doesn't arrive when bills do. That's the problem Gusto's broader set of financial services capabilities is built to solve.
Tax credits however are one of the most powerful and least understood levers in a broad tool belt. Done right, they're not "savings" - they're capital. R&D credits, WOTC, payroll tax offsets, state and local programs - these are real dollars sitting on the table for SMBs who don't have the time, expertise, or tooling to claim them. Your job is to find that money, get it into our customers' hands, and increasingly, get it there before they'd otherwise see it. Tax Credits is becoming a core piece of how Gusto delivers financial confidence to small businesses, not a side product.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

Spearhead a product and business that turns tax credits into working capital for small businesses. North star: get more cash into our customers' hands, faster.

Own the roadmap end to end. Discovery to launch to growth. You'll run the business like an operator, not a feature owner.

Reposition the product. Tax credits are commonly sold as “tax savings." We're going to sell them as cashflow - and back it up with product.

Partner deeply with Engineering, Design, Ops, and Data Science to build it, and with the GM and Revenue team to grow it and tune unit economics.

Run lean experiments and A/B tests to validate concepts fast. Strong signal beats long debate.

Connect the product to the broader finance platform. Tax credits should compound with everything else Money Group is shipping - not sit in a silo. You'll work closely with the Banking and Lending teams to make sure credits are a first-class input into the cashflow story we're telling customers.

Set the long-term vision. What's the durable competitive advantage when tax credits are a cashflow product, not a savings product? What does the five-year version of this look like sitting alongside a Gusto business banking account, real-time payroll funding, and embedded lending? That's the canvas.

Here’s what we're looking for:

8+ years of hands-on Product Management experience or 12+ years of relevant work experience

Proven track record of building 0 to 1 products with nice to haves in:

Strong product discovery skills and analytical skills

The intangibles: natural curiosity, grit, customer obsession, and attention to detail

The ability to tell a compelling story that drives alignment and inspires action

Strong collaboration skills; ability to quickly build trust quickly

A passion for helping small businesses

If you don't think you meet all of the
